What inspired you to write the Little Mike series?
I’ve always enjoyed writing and drawing Little Mike and his friends. And after seeing my dad publish books, I thought it would be fun to publish my own book!
Which character is your favorite, and why?
My favorite character is Little Mike for many reasons. He’s the first character I drew, his hair is fun to draw, and he’s a bit like me!
Have you ever had any real-life experiences that inspired the stories?
Yes, when I think of a new adventure Little Mike could go on, I look back at my own life. I enjoy spending weekends at the beach, so I wrote about Little Mike going to the beach.
What's your writing process like?
First, I think of an idea, what should Little Mike and his friends do? Then, I write the rough draft; this is flexible and the wording or idea can change. I read my book and look for mistakes or ways I can improve my writing. Finally, after checking the spelling and the flow of words I move on to drawing pictures to match the words.
Are there any secrets hidden in the books that haven't been discovered yet?
Yes! Each Little Mike book has an easter egg.
What can we expect from future Little Mike adventures?
Little Mike will continue to learn and go on adventures with his friends, and maybe new friends!
What advice do you have for aspiring young writers?
Never give up! Writing a book can take months or years! After you’ve finished the outline of your book, look for ways you can improve.
